THE GARDEN
THE SITE
The issue within the home is the gardening area. It is not suitable for children to play there due to overgrown weeds and minor plantations. There are a number of old tyres and some unused rubbish which some contain water that would be a potential place for mosquitoes to breed. Therefore, we decided to create a new outdoor landscape as a better environment for the children to be at. This also enables them to be educated about disease prone environment and contribution to the environment.
WALKWAY
Based in the old formwork wood found on the garden we decided to make a walkway out of it as the garden seem to not have a direction to the shade area. Therefore we pulled the old rusted nails out of the wood (for safety reasons) and measured and cut all the wood to the same size so that the walkway would look uniform. After cutting the wood, we dug the walkway hole according to our desig and filled it with 1 layer normal soil and another layer of gravel sand to bring out the colour of the wood. And finally the wood and sand were placed simultaneously step by step.
THE GARDEN SHADE
The construction of the shading for the nursery required a lot of research as it's not a simple task. To do this we begin with the foundation, which is digging out a hole 150mm wide × 150mm length × 300mm height. In which half of the formwork is buried under ground for better stability. In total we created 11 formwork for the columns.
After placing the formwork we poured out concrete mixture that consists of sand, gravels and cement. We added brackets on the top of the wet concrete mixture to connect the wood to the concrete foundation when the mixture takes shape and dry in the formwork. After two days of drying the formwork is removed and soil are compacted around the concrete to ensure stability. The columns are measured to 2450 m and cut then screwed into the brackets on the foundation. After all the columns are placed we connected the beams with the 'L' shape brackets. We finishes the whole shading structure with the green netting that is fastened in place with a metal wire gauze.
PIPING SYSTEM
We decided to add a partial water piping system for the garden as there aren't a proper one for a land this big. For the piping system we connected the pipe to the tap that is attached to collect rain water in its water tank. Then we connected the rain water tap to the piping and fasten it. We places a 'T' pipe junction to increase the connection horizontally to water the plants. This connection method is repeated. The water drips put of the rainwater tape surely but slowly ensuring all the plants get the water that is required. This is an excellent way to recycle rainwater .
