ABOUT

US

In a group of 11, we were tasked to identify an environmental-community related issue in the local community. As such, we reached out to the Lighthouse Children Welfare Home, an orphanage accommodating 54 children. Upon visiting the orphanage, we analysed the situation to be able to propose a project that would have an impact to the environment and community.

After brainstorming and consulting Jacinta about the needs of the children, we came to a decision to build a bookshelf for the children to be able to keep their books away in a designated space. The shelf could also be used to store their bags when they came back from school.

Sourcing our materials from a refurbishment project, we gathered pieces of extra plywood that was not needed, and proceeded to construct the shelf.

Throughout the assembly of the shelf we visited the orphanage several times and was able to get to interact with and get to know the children who lived there. Delivering the shelf and assembling it in the home was indeed a satisfying feeling, we do hope that our piece of furniture will be able to serve its purpose well.
